HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE.
But there´s always one area that´s not so happy. We make New Years´ resolutions in the sincere belief that we´ll carry them through only to fall by the first week or at best the end of January. We´ve all been there and yet we do it AGAIN and AGAIN. Why?
There has to be a better way. I´ve tried most things but the best and simplest way I have found that gets RESULTS is to use the “SMART” way. It´s easy, just break down your goals into SMALL ACHIEVABLE WINS
“SMART” means that your goals are Specific, Measurable, Agreed, Realistic and Timed. If you apply these easy steps to each resolution you WILL increase your chances of success. For example rather than just saying “I plan to get fit next year” ( which is pretty vague ) use the Smart way.
Here is just one one example but it can be applied to ANY resolution.
I will exercise 3 times a week
Each exercise will last for 10 minutes
I intend to lose 1/2 a kilo a week by ditching “take outs” and sweets
I am going to “buddy up” with my best friend
We´ll check our success TOGETHER every 3 months
I suggested that you “buddy up “ with a friend but you could also join a group. Check out what Age Concern Marbella do at their San Pedro Community Centre. If you are on your own, no problem, start a journal. Seeing improvement ALWAYS reinforces your motivation and makes those inevitable set backs easier to handle
Change won´t happen overnight so don´t beat yourself up if you occasionally slip up. Instead of giving up, tweak your plan and keep moving forward. Small consistent effort WILL bring lasting rewards.
