People like us, not on the national health plan of Spain are entitled to the anti Covid vaccine and it has been suggested that the best way to ensure that is to go to your local public health clinic, identify yourself and get registered.
We were able to do this same day and here is a checklist for what we did and how it worked.
- Prepare a single sheet of paper, in Spanish, stating you have residency, that you have a NIE number, that you are properly on the Padron of your town, that you are NOT registered with the health center , that you have private insurance as required for your residency and that you want to be properly registered in order to be certain you are called when it’s your age group’s turn for the vaccine
- Sign it and print your full name, your NIE number, your email address and your cell number at the bottom of the sheet
- Bring your Residency card with you and copies of your Empadronamiento …it makes it easier on the people in these busy clinics…
- Go to the public health center in your town. Patiently wait your turn. Hand the receptionist the paper you prepared and if your Spanish is up to the task explain why you are there.
We went it at 10:15AM they took our docs and copied them (NIE card, Padron and for some reason our private insurance) and, one hour later we returned and picked up our number which, as we live in Andalusia, begins with the letters AN. We are registered and were told when it’s our turn for vaccines, we will be called.
This is how it worked for us. I hope it does for you. I have no other answers or knowledge or recommendation.
Bottom line: At least at our local center persons not on the health plan were able to get registered and advised that this was what was needed to get the phone call for the vaccine.
