We will be starting Backgammon lessons/playing on Monday February 9th at 3pm in the Age Concern Community Centre. Please come along if interested. If you have an old Backgammon set at home, hidden in a corner, please bring it with you. We have some but would like more. Thank you
Backgammon is one of the oldest known boardgames, dating back approximately 5,000 years to ancient Mespotamia. It is still widely played today all around the world.
Players race to move their chequers round the board, using dice to dictate moves. Each game lasts about 15 minutes. Its competitive in a friendly way.
Regular play sharpens mental abilities due to its blend of planning, problem solving and memory with an element of risk or luck, due to dice use.
At the same time it is a very social game, where you can chat and joke, whilst playing and is much more relaxed than bridge or chess.
Age Concern is lucky enough to have an offer of lessons from an experienced player, on monday afternoons. Brian is from Ireland and has played for many years, but is interested in sharing his love of the game with us.
