La Vuelta de España, the biggest cycling race in Spain, is coming to visit us on Friday 11th September. This is a major event in world cycling and we will have bikes, police, helicopters, and crowds throughout the area. Overall the race covers 3,310km between the Monaco start nearly 3 weeks ago, and the finish in Granada on Sunday.
Currently there is high local interest because a Spanish rider, Enric Mas, riding for the Spanish team Movistar is winning but obviously this may change before the race arrives.
The race passes through San Pedro centre around 4pm, and through Estepona centre around 4.30pm, before finishing up the Peñas Blancas climb.. But there will be lots of activity earlier, including a publicity caravan, giving away free gifts. Road will be closed several hours ahead of the race coming through. The routes are shown below, and you can get more information from the official Website HERE
Maybe go to see the race go past, or watch ourselves on tv (RTVE) but we recommend you don’t try to drive close by during the afternoon. There will be traffic jams!
Enjoy the afternoon.
