Update On The S1 Form

Does the S1 Form entitle me to healthcare cover in the UK? S1 holders will continue to receive UK national healthcare services if they visit the UK, as would any other UK resident. This includes primary care, emergency treatment and hospital care that is provided by the NHS.

Age in Spain published useful information regarding S1 Form and general guidance regarding healthcare for UK nationals living in Spain.

Healthcare, it is one of the most regularly asked subjects we deal with and it matters to all of us. Also, many enquirers have asked us if the S1 form for pensioners will provide healthcare cover back in the UK.

So we asked the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office to clarify the situation, to bring you their official response.

The answer is: the S1 form will allow you, as a UK national who is resident in Spain, to continue to receive UK national healthcare services if you visit the UK, as would any other UK resident. This includes the following services provided by the NHS:

  • Primary care (GP, pharmacy, dentist and optician services)
  • Emergency treatment
  • Secondary and hospital care

This is the policy announced by the UK Government. For more information visit the Living in Spain guide at gov.uk.
