We´re now on the countdown to Christmas and the New Year. Stress levels are rising and bank balances are falling. Lots of planning with family and friends coming together to enjoy the festivities. Too much food and drink and all those presents!
Will you be making and then breaking those New Year Resolutions before 3 Kings? Examples may include to eat and drink less, try and lose that “muffin top,” (again) spend some quality time with loved ones and, (possibly), be a little nicer to others. Very laudable, but for most of us,
short lived.
Many of us have full and enjoyable lives here on the Costa del Sol. But that means that a lot of folk DON´T and they in particular dread this time of year.
Why? Because they now live on their own, in a lot of instances because their life partner has passed away and Christmastime is a painful reminder of Christmas Past, as in the above.
For them, living on their own, life is no longer a joy. They may have mobility and health issues that prevent them from socialising, and so the boundaries of their world start to close in. It´s not fun when the “friend” you talk to is the TV newscaster.
Age Concern Marbella – San Pedro understand what Loneliness and Social Isolation means and we KNOW how to make things better. But we need your help.
We are determined to help people live their best lives. For many who live on their own, “depression”, in all its guises, is never far away. People simply forget to look after themselves and become more insular and isolated.
What they NEED more than anything else is COMPANIONSHIP. Just a couple of hours, as often as you can, will make a real difference to each person, (and we know you´ll get a lot out of it too!)
Helping others is in our DNA and this is an easy and fun way of making a real difference to the life of another person. Our older English-speaking generation are stoic and proud by nature and they won’t ever ask. Why? Because they believe they would become a “burden”.
Please spare just an hour or two and help to change someone´s life FOREVER.
Call or WhatsApp our Helpline on 689 355 198 ANY weekday from 10.00 to 6.00 pm. You will speak to a helpful and knowledgeable volunteer who will explain what´s involved. It really couldn´t be simpler and it´s an easy resolution to keep.
Or you can email us at info@ageconcernmarbella.com
We often look on friendships and companionship as the norm, but for our vulnerable neighbours, your act of kindness is nothing short of a miracle.
From all of us at Age Concern Marbella – San Pedro we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Very Happy and Miracle Making New Year.
