Not everyone realizes that if you are a pensioner, who is officially resident in Spain, you are entitled to a number of discounts, even if you hold a foreign passport.
One of the most useful is the Tarjeta sesentaycinco or TAJ65 which is free of charge, is valid for five years and is issued by the Junta de Andalucia. You can apply on line but must be able to demonstrate that you are on the Padron. Visit the Junta Andalucia website and enter TAJ65 in the search section
The main discounts for those over 65 who have the card are;
Junta de Andalucía regional government telecare at a low monthly which provides access to a 24-hour helpline by pressing a button on a pendant worn on your neck.
It does not just help with emergencies, but also provides easier access to advice on health services and sends out reminders of when to take medicines.
Half price on buses subsidised by the Junta de Andalucía that link towns
Glasses with between 30% to 55% discount
Hearing aids with 30% to 35% discount
Various discounts in hotels, cinemas, sporting events and other attractions
Access to a legal guidance service (generally in Spanish) available in certain day centres for the elderly run by the regional government
Access to a subsidised lunch service available at select regional government day centres for those holding the card
Tarjeta Dorada Card
If you are over 60, make sure you are eligible for a discount on all your train trips for just 6 euros. You can purchase your Tarjeta Dorada, which is named and non-transferable, at station ticket offices or travel agencies and you can also choose validity of one to three years.
Discounts
On AVE (high-speed) trains, AVE International between Spain and France and Larga Distancia (Long Distance) 25% discount on any available price.
On Avant (mid-distance high-speed) trains Monday to Friday: 25% discount on the price of the general/base fare.
Saturdays and Sundays: 40% discount on the price of the general/base fare.
Parador Hotels
For those 55 years old or older,10% off the official Government owned Parador rate and 10% off breakfast.
This is subject to room availability and you simply ask for the discount when booking and be able to show proof of age when you check in.
